The Ryan Stinson Endowed History Scholarship was established with a simple but powerful belief: education has the ability to transform lives, families, and entire communities. Through this endowed scholarship, Ryan Stinson hopes to create opportunities for students pursuing their educational goals while helping remove financial barriers that too often stand in the way of success.
As a second-generation university graduate, he carries with him the example of a father who worked his way through college from a working-class background, making significant sacrifices to earn an education. That example shaped his understanding of opportunity, hard work, and the lasting impact education can have across generations.
“I always ask how I can better the world,” Ryan shared.
That question became the foundation for his philanthropy. Through scholarships created in California and across the country, Ryan hopes to provide students with what he calls “a hand up,” an opportunity to pursue an education without financial hardship becoming the deciding factor in whether they can continue.
For Ryan, education is priceless because of what it exposes people to: new ideas, experiences, perspectives, and possibilities that cannot easily be replicated elsewhere. He believes learning has the power to challenge misinformation, expand understanding, and strengthen society itself.
“By learning as individuals in society, society also learns in turn and is less easily misled,” he explained.
The Ryan Stinson Endowed History Scholarship was created with those ideals in mind. More than financial support, the scholarship is an investment in students who are willing to work hard, remain curious, and continue growing throughout their lives.
Ryan hopes recipients remember that education is not simply about achievement in the classroom. It is also about resilience.
“Life is about gains and setbacks,” he said. “It is about trying hard and knowing that you tried as best you could no matter the outcome.”
He encourages students to continue learning long after graduation, to remain adaptable, and to approach life with integrity and perseverance. Above all, he hopes they recognize that education is something no circumstance can ever take away.
“Don’t ever be bitter about life,” Ryan shared. “You will always have your education no matter what happens.”
Through his generosity, Ryan Stinson is helping create opportunities for students to write new chapters for themselves, their families, and their communities for generations to come.
