For Katrina Green, May 2025 was more than just a graduation date – it was a historic milestone for her entire family. By earning her Associate’s Degree in Science and as well as a degree in Clinical Medical Assisting, Katrina became the first in her family to graduate from college.
The journey was a collective effort. “My parents worked my entire life to help me get here,” Katrina said. However, the final push was made possible through the Santa Clara Family Health Plan Scholarship at San José City College, which eased the financial burden during her final year and allowed her to focus entirely on her rigorous clinical studies.
With her medical assisting credentials in hand, Katrina isn’t slowing down. She is currently completing her final prerequisites in microbiology and preparing to apply for nursing school. This scholarship didn’t just help her reach the finish line; it gave her momentum to keep going.
“Becoming the first in my family to earn a degree is something I’m incredibly proud of,” she said. Today, Katrina stands as a bridge between her family’s hard work and a bright future in healthcare, proving that with the right support, the dream of becoming a nurse is well within reach.
