Robert N. Chang Scholarship Celebrates 25 Years of Impact

Robert N Chang Family at SJCC

The 2026 scholarship season will mark the 25th anniversary of the partnership between San José City College and the Robert N. Chang Charitable Foundation.

Since the early 2000s, the program’s core mission has remained steadfast: Awarding life-changing scholarships to outstanding and resilient transfer students. It is inspiring to see how this vision has flourished into a vast alumni network that has thrived for over two decades. Throughout the years, countless recipients have shared that the Foundation’s support served as a transformative force far beyond financial assistance, acting as a catalyst for their educational journeys, professional advancement, and personal lives.

To date, the Robert N. Chang Charitable Foundation has awarded scholarships of approximately $5,000 annually for two years to 168 qualifying SJCC transfer students. With total contributions exceeding $1.5 million, the Foundation stands as the largest donor of student scholarships within our community college district. This sustained commitment reached a new milestone in 2024, when the Foundation expanded its impact to also fund scholarships at Evergreen Valley College, ensuring that high-achieving students across the district have the support needed to transition to four-year universities.

Many of these recipients have gone on to pursue careers in healthcare, engineering, and education, contributing meaningfully to their families and the local community. “I am deeply grateful to work closely with Chang Foundation board members Mr. Allan Liu, Mr. James Chen, and Mr. Vincent Chang,” says Doriann Tran, Chang Liaison and Counselor. “Their dedication to our diverse student population is evident in every aspect of this partnership. They truly care about helping our students succeed.” The SJECCD Foundation remains honored by this continued generosity and looks forward to the many lives that will be changed in the years ahead.
